Snow Day Inspiration: the White Witch of Narnia
Tilda Swinton as Jadis the White Witch in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in C. S. Lewis's series, The Chronicles of Narnia.
Thursday's snow Storm seemed to catch the Philadelphia area by surprise. I admit to liking snow and love watching my exuberant pups play and tumble in it. After hearing the horror stories of friends who were on the road this afternoon, I was thankful that both my husband and I had the option of staying home today. Between shoveling and playing with my pups, the day went by quickly and I realized my plan for Fashion Friday was going to take more research than I was willing to give it, so I took inspiration from the weather. I devoured the Chronicles of Narnia as a child and C.S. Lewis is still one of my favorite writers. Every few years, I revisit his last novel, "Till we have Faces," Lewis' retelling of the Cupid Psyche tale. I love how I have a new and different interpretation of it each time I read it. So I decided to pay tribute to C.S.Lewis's vivid imagination and story telling and focus on Jadis, the White Witch in the first book of the Narnia Chronicles, "the Lion, the witch and the Wardrobe." Tilda Swinton's unearthly looks make for the perfect "Ice Queen." Stay warm and cozy and I hope to see many of you at my Client Celebration and Open Studio this Saturday evening November 17 from 6 to 10pm. As always, please fell free to comment below and share with friends.

Tilda Swinton’s outfit as Jadis, the White Witch was designed by Isis Mussenden.
It was the designers 4 year old son who actually came up with the idea of the witch “evolving” rather than “changing” clothing.”
The first layer of the dress is a dyed velvet, the second layer is felted wool and silk, it is the sheen of the silk that created these icy lines and then the final layer is lace with metallic thread and organza pieces that are sewn and burnt into the fabric.
