From Archangels to Pontiffs

I'm not big fan of award ceremonies and shows. I can't tell you the last time I watched the Oscars and I don't think I ever saw the Emmys or the Grammys, but I like to look at the gowns that stood out the day after the event... even if I don't really know who half the people are. (Years ago, a friend described me as being a refugee from popular culture... it remains true to this day)

The red carpet that I've always been especially interested in is the Met Gala when the realms of fashion, film, music and art come together to raise money for the Met's Costume Institute. There's a different theme every year, centered around the latest exhibit. Particular fun past themes were; Punk: Chaos to Couture and China: Through the Looking Glass. 2018's exhibition theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.

What I enjoy the most are the more outrageous costumes that are purely art for art's sake or just tongue in cheek.

Here's a peek of some of the more extravagant and unconventional designs of the evening.

And yes, being true to my refugee status, I had to unapologetically google four of the stars.
